Tlalli: Grounded Flow at Colectivo Cihuateotl

A gentle, grounding Sunday-morning yoga class at a community cultural centre in City Terrace, run by a collective centred on Black, Indigenous and Queer communities of colour.

Information card: a grounding Sunday practice at Colectivo Cihuateotl, City Terrace, 10 to 11 a.m. at 4100 City Terrace Drive, run by a community collective centring Black, Indigenous, Queer and Trans people of colour.

Tlalli — “earth” in Nahuatl — is a Sunday 10 to 11 a.m. class at Colectivo Cihuateotl Centro Cultural on City Terrace Drive, in the hills east of downtown. The collective describes it as a gentle, grounding practice built around intentional breath and mindful movement, meant to “root into the earth, bring the body into alignment and activate our energy centers.”

It runs weekly; we have listed the 11 October session, but the organiser’s own listing describes the class as recurring on Sundays, so check the date on the ticket page before you travel.

Who runs it

Colectivo Cihuateotl is an autonomous, community-centred organisation whose stated mission is supporting Black, Indigenous, Queer, Trans, Womxn, Femme and gender-expansive people of colour through cultura, arts and education, grounded in Indigenous ways. The yoga class is one strand of a wider cultural programme, not a studio offering — worth knowing if you are deciding whether it is the right room for you.

Getting there

City Terrace sits just north-east of Boyle Heights, off the 10 and the 710. It is one of the parts of LA our directory does not yet cover, which is exactly why a standing community class there is worth listing. If you run or teach something similar in a neighbourhood we have missed, tell us about it.
