Yoga in Northridge
2 studios in this part of LA — choose by feel, not by spreadsheet.
Body and Brain Valley
The Northridge centre of the Korean Body and Brain chain, at Nordhoff and Balboa. As at the Burbank room, this is not yoga in the vinyasa sense: classes braid gentle stretching, tai chi and qigong, breathing exercises and meditation, with the nervous system rather than the shape as the point. Slow, talked-through, and easy to start from nothing. A trial class is the usual way in.
North Valley Aikikai
Primarily an aikido dojo rather than a yoga studio, near Cal State Northridge, and worth listing for the four mind-body classes on its weekly schedule: Yin Yoga on Thursday evenings, Restorative Yoga on Sunday mornings, and mat Pilates twice a week. Everything else on the timetable is aikido, weapons and iaido. It is a mat room in a martial-arts hall, not a boutique studio, and the yoga is a small corner of what happens there — but it is open to the public and priced like a dojo.
