Y7 Closes Every Studio, Including Silver Lake

Y7 Studio has closed all eight of its locations, the hip-hop-soundtracked, candlelit vinyasa chain going dark in September 2026 with little warning to the instructors who taught there or the members who had paid up front. One of those rooms was 4300 Sunset Blvd in Silver Lake.

What happened

Sarah Larson Levey and Mason Levey founded Y7 in 2013; it grew fast enough to land on lists of America’s fastest-growing companies. After the brand was acquired by FitLab, Larson Levey signed a three-year agreement to run Y7 as an independent unit inside the larger company, keeping operational control while FitLab handled marketing and finance.

By reporting in Inc., that arrangement broke down. Tensions surfaced in June 2025 when FitLab declined to approve employee raises — something Larson Levey had maintained since founding the company and argued was essential to keeping teachers. She was subsequently stripped of financial and operational authority, including decisions over hiring and studio maintenance. FitLab is reported to have demanded a 25 to 30 percent cut in labour costs despite the business being profitable, and six salaried employees were laid off.

Former Silver Lake instructor Trevor Leeper, who taught at Y7 for close to three years, described the final weeks as disorganised — towel service stopping, equipment left to go mouldy in the rooms.

Reporting indicates staff were left with unpaid wages and members with unfulfilled memberships, including people who had paid a full year in advance. If that is you, the usual routes are a chargeback through your card issuer for the unused portion, and — for teachers owed wages — a wage claim with the California Labor Commissioner. One caveat on verification: Y7’s own website, y7-studio.com, no longer resolves to a site at all — it returns an HTTP 402 “payment required / deployment disabled” error, so there is no company statement to link to. That is consistent with the reporting, but it does mean the closure has not been confirmed by the company in its own words.

What might come next in Silver Lake

Leeper and another former instructor are reportedly weighing an independent reopening of the Silver Lake studio. Nothing has been announced, and we will not list a studio that does not yet exist — but if it opens, it will go in the directory like any other. If you are one of the people behind it, tell us.
