About the retreat
Free Spirited Wanderer's Sacred Valley Wellness & Wonder Retreat spends seven nights in Peru, April 16 to 23, 2027: six at Willka T'ika, a retreat center founded in 1995 in the Sacred Valley between Cusco and Machu Picchu, and a final night in Cusco. It is led by Carole Keefer, and it is her third retreat in Peru.
Daily yoga classes and workshops, open to beginners, sit alongside a program Willka T'ika runs: an Andean offering and fire ceremony with a Q'ero healer, the ruins and market at Pisac, a visit to a Quechua mountain school, a full day at Machu Picchu, and the market and pottery studio in Urubamba. Meals at the center are organic and vegetarian.
The retreat is fully booked, and the hosts keep a waiting list. MyLAyoga does not run this retreat. What the week includes
An Andean fire ceremony
Coca-leaf blessings and a despacho offering with a pakko, a Q'ero healer from the high Andes, then an evening fire ceremony to honour Pachamama.
Pisac ruins and market
A hike through the Inca terraces of Pisac, a ceremony, and time in its market of weavings and crafts.
A mountain school visit
A morning at a Quechua mountain school supported by the Willka T'ika Children's Fund, where the group offers the children an activity in a spirit of ayni, or reciprocity.
A full day at Machu Picchu
The train to Aguas Calientes, a guided tour of the citadel, lunch in town and the train back to the valley.
Willka T'ika's gardens
Seven chakra gardens, two yoga shalas, an Andean spa and solar baths, with rooms built from natural earth and no televisions or phones.

Carole Keefer
Founder of Free Spirited Wanderer, E-RYT 700
Carole founded Free Spirited Wanderer in 2014 and has led more than 30 retreats. She trained with Rishikul Yogshala in Nepal and India, did an Ashtanga apprenticeship in Charlotte and has studied with Rod Stryker, and her classes follow the eight limbs with an emphasis on breath, strength and alignment. She lives in North Carolina.

The Sacred Valley
Daily yoga and workshops at Willka T'ika around the included outings: the offering and fire ceremony, the school visit and Pisac, a full day at Machu Picchu, and Urubamba's market, Seminario pottery studio and an alpaca factory store, with free time between. The hosts publish a sample order for these days; we confirm the final schedule with them.

The hosts price it from $4,595 per person sharing a garden room to $5,795 for a luxury single. Is there any space left?
Not at the moment. The hosts list the retreat as fully booked and keep a waiting list, and they say they try to add rooms when a room type sells out. Send us an enquiry and we pass your details on.
What does it cost?
Prices are per person: $4,595 sharing a garden room, $4,795 sharing a luxury room, $5,495 for a garden room to yourself and $5,795 for a luxury single. They include all meals, the Machu Picchu day and the ceremonies and outings listed.
How do I get there from Los Angeles?
Fly LAX to Lima, then on to Cusco, arriving April 16; the hosts transfer you from Cusco airport to Willka T'ika. The retreat ends in Cusco on April 23, so book your flight home from Cusco.
How much altitude is involved?
Cusco sits at about 3,400 m (11,150 ft) and the Sacred Valley at roughly 2,800 to 3,000 m. This retreat goes straight down to the valley and saves Cusco for the last night, so you acclimatise lower down first. Talk to your doctor about altitude before you travel.
What is the cancellation policy?
Deposits and payments are non-refundable. Cancel 91 days or more before the start and you can transfer your deposit once to another Free Spirited Wanderer retreat in the same calendar year, for a $150 fee. From 61 to 90 days out the deposit is lost, but the balance can move to a retreat within a year. Inside 60 days nothing transfers. The hosts recommend travel insurance.
