Sound bath Yoga Nest Venice
An eclectic, light-filled studio known for candlelit yin, soundbaths and a magical community feel.
Sculpt shefayoga Venice
A beautiful Main Street studio with dharma-rich flows, sculpt, breathwork and reiki offerings.
Traditional lineage Shiva Yoga
A philosophy-forward studio rooted in the traditional practice of yoga, with no mirrors or music and a strong YTT program.
Crescent Yoga
A small Altadena studio on the corner of Lincoln and Acacia running a tight, legible schedule: Mixed Levels most days, a Yoga and Strength class twice a week, and a Fundamentals class for people starting out, every one of them an hour, every one taught by a named teacher. Monday afternoon's Fundamentals is a community class. Booking closes thirty minutes before the start and latecomers are not admitted, so turn up on time. Parking is in the Superking lot.
Slow flow & gentle Garden of Yoga
A small, deliberately unglamorous studio on a residential street off Ventura, running mindful, gentle, restorative and mixed-level classes with an emphasis on working around injuries and chronic pain rather than pushing through them. Every class is offered live online as well as in the room, there is a pranayama and meditation class on the schedule, and sound baths run monthly. The draw is hands-on alignment feedback in a room small enough for the teacher to actually see you.
Lila Yoga Studio
A little further along Foothill from Yoga Rebel, and pitched at the traditional end: a genuine Ashtanga class sits on the same timetable as vinyasa, gentle flow, Yin, Yoga Nidra and a Restore and Sound class, with targeted hips-and-hamstrings and shoulders mobility sessions for people working around a specific restriction. Lila Strength and Hatha Power cover the harder end.
Vinyasa flow Metta Meditation and Yoga Studio
Open since 2018 on the Montrose edge of Glendale, and unusual in giving meditation equal billing with the mat: short guided sits are scheduled as their own twenty-minute classes straight after the evening Vinyasa, not tacked onto the end of one. The rest of the week runs Hatha, Yin, Gentle Yoga, a breathwork-and-twists class and a stretch ritual, with crystal-bowl sound bath meditations as the recurring special event. There are meditation chairs as well as mats.
Vinyasa flow Rise Mindful Healing
A Main Street studio that frames everything around nervous-system regulation rather than fitness, the schedule splits into mindful movement (vinyasa, hatha, mat pilates) and restorative practices (yin, breathwork, sound baths). Massage, red light therapy and an infrared sauna sit alongside the classes, so a visit can be a class, a treatment or both.
Traditional lineage Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Center Los Angeles
Classical Sivananda practice, seven days a week, from a Broadway suite sixteen blocks from the beach. The all-levels class is a full 90 minutes (breathing exercises, sun salutations, the twelve basic postures and a long final relaxation), with a shorter gentle class for anyone who wants more warm-up and shorter holds. Daily satsang of meditation and chanting is free and open to everyone, and the centre also runs teacher training, meditation and positive-thinking courses, yoga therapy and Ayurveda. Classes are offered in person and online; pre-registration is expected and there is a dress code.
Traditional lineage Spiritual Heart Yoga Center
A neighbourhood studio on Honolulu Avenue in Montrose, built on Hatha: the schedule runs from a traditional Hatha class through Hatha Flow, a Gentle Flow that is explicitly open to prenatal students, Gentle Yin and a half-flow half-restorative Flow and Release. Advance booking is required and walk-ins are not taken. Unlimited members also get an on-demand library of over a hundred videos, and there is a small boutique attached, open Sundays.
Hot yoga Yoga NoHo Center
A long-running Vineland Avenue studio running two tracks side by side (far-infrared heated classes and traditional non-heated ones), seven days a week, all of them built on a Hatha foundation the studio is explicit about. Sound baths, workshops and 200-hour and Yin teacher trainings fill out the calendar, and an on-demand video library covers the days you cannot get there. Contact is by email only; there is no phone line.
