What happened

On June 21, 2026, the Consulate General of India in Los Angeles held the 12th International Day of Yoga at the Drollinger Family Stage, Lawton Plaza, on the campus of Loyola Marymount University. The program ran from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon and drew members of the Indian diaspora, students, yoga practitioners, and wellness professionals from across the LA area.

The theme: “Yoga for Healthy Ageing”

This year’s observance followed the global theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing.” Participants collectively performed the Common Yoga Protocol and took part in meditation and breathing exercises framed around physical health, mental well-being, and healthy ageing across age groups.

Who organized it

The event was organized in collaboration with India’s Ministry of AYUSH, the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Loyola Marymount University, and more than thirty Southern California yoga and wellness organizations.

Addressing the gathering, Consul General Dr. K. J. Srinivasa described yoga as India’s timeless gift to humanity. Distinguished guests included Councilmember Zeel Ahir and Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman.

Why it matters for LA practitioners

International Day of Yoga, observed worldwide on June 21, is the single largest annual date on the yoga calendar. The LMU gathering anchored Los Angeles’s official observance — a large, free, community-scale session and a point of connection across dozens of area studios and wellness groups.
