The PRO’s closed-cell surface, 1.3 mm thinner, two inches narrower and 2.9 lb lighter in the standard length. It is the Manduka to carry to class, and not the one for a hot room.

Who it suits

  • You carry your mat to class. Between this and the PRO the decision is weight, not cushioning: 4.6 lb against 7.5 lb in the standard length, a difference you feel every time you lift it.
  • You practise in a studio or a small room. Manduka cuts it 24 inches wide, against 26 for the PRO and most of the range.
  • You need a latex-free mat. Manduka lists the PRO series as latex-free PVC.
  • You want one mat for years. It carries the PRO series lifetime guarantee.

Who should look elsewhere

  • You practise hot or sweat hard. A closed-cell surface sheds moisture, so sweat sits on top and grip falls away; Manduka itself suggests a towel if you sweat. The open-cell GRP Adapt is the hot-yoga mat in this range. See the GRP Adapt →
  • Your mat stays in one room. Weight you never lift costs you nothing, and the PRO gives you 1.3 mm more cushioning for it. See the Manduka PRO →

Caring for it

PVC is the most forgiving surface in the range: a damp cloth after practice, mild soap for a deep clean, and a few hours to dry. Manduka’s break-in advice is simply to practise on it, and it does not recommend the salt scrub. The mat-care guide has the full table, material by material.

What we can tell you, and what we cannot

We have not practised on the Manduka PROlite. Nobody here owns one, and this page is not a hands-on review. The numbers are Manduka’s. What we add is the consequence of them, which is the reasoning in our Manduka guide: whether you sweat decides between an open-cell and a closed-cell surface before anything else does, and weight is what decides whether a mat goes to class or stays home. The yoga mat buying guide sets out the same rules for any brand.
